Exercise on Referral
GP Referral
If you have a specific medical condition and
are new to exercise then ask your GP about the referral scheme. If
your GP agrees that
you would benefit from a course of exercise then they can refer you
to us to receive a comprehensive health and fitness assessment and
a structured exercise programme. Activities include use of the gym,
classes, pool rehab and specialist clinics.
Cardiac Rehab
The Stour Centre runs a comprehensive cardiac
rehabilitation programme for patients referred by the William
Harvey Hospital after suffering a heart attack or undergoing heart
surgery. The rehabilitation team consists of an Exercise
Physiologist, a Cardiac Rehab Nurse Specialist and a
Physiotherapist.
The initial part of the programme offers twice
weekly circuit classes. This focuses on improving cardiovascular
fitness under supervised and controlled conditions. This phase also
includes an educational component in the form of weekly talks on
subjects such as stress management and nutrition.
Visit the Cardiac
Rehabilitation website for more information.
Children’s Fit Club
These sessions offer physical activities and
education sessions aimed at overweight children (and their
parents/guardians) aged between 6 - 13 years. A referral via
exercise on referral scheme is ideally required, although self
referrals are also accepted.
Please contact us on 01233 667120 for more information on
any of these services.
